A sleep study, also known as a polysomnography, is done to determine if you are getting enough of the right kind of sleep. So many health problems are directly related to lack of quality sleep. By having a sleep study done, the Board Certified Sleep Medicine physician can read the study and know what needs to be done to get you back to a good night’s rest
When you are called from our scheduling department, you will be given a time, usually between 7 and 8 PM to arrive. Please do not bring any medicine with you but do bring a list of what you are taking.
Bring something comfortable to sleep in, make up remover or shower items, reading material (if you read before bed) or anything else that you normally need for a night away from home.
After registering at the front, our sleep technician will bring you back to the sleep rooms. You will spend some time answering questions related to medications, sleep patterns, and other information the doctor will need to read your study.
While there may be 2 studies going on the same night, each will have separate rooms and bathrooms. The cameras are only accessed by the tech in the control so you will not interact with another patient.
The technician will hook many wires to you with either a removable glue or paste. Please let her know if you have any latex or tape allergies. We will be monitoring several things throughout the night. If you need to go to restroom, the tech will help unhook you and then hook you back up. She will also be in and out of the room adjusting wires that may come loose.
We realize that coming to a strange room, hooking you up to wires and having a camera staring at you can make anyone nervous. We will still be able to get a good study most of the time.
Thank you for trusting us!
